Life at the River's Edge: Aug 15 - Sep 5, 2010

RiversEdgeWeb.jpg

The book of Joshua begins with the people of Israel gathered on the banks of the Jordan River, preparing to enter into the land that God promised long ago to Abraham and his descendants. At some point in our lives, all of us find ourselves at the river’s edge. It’s that moment in life when we are faced with a huge opportunity – an opportunity to experience God’s best. But life is scary at the river’s edge. There are so many unknowns about life on the other side of the river. It’s tempting just to settle for the perceived security of that with which we are most familiar.

In these four weeks we explore what it means to live at the river’s edge. We will look at the promises that God gives us. We will also look at the faith that God requires. The first four chapters of Joshua will be our guide.

Do you know someone who's seen Bigfoot's tracks? What about Nessie in Loch Ness? Of course, almost every kid has learned that there really are alligators in the sewer. You know how it goes: someone sees something and tells someone who then tells someone else. On and on and on it goes until its hard to separate fact from fiction. This doesn't just happen with alligators and Bigfoot... it happens with spiritual truths as well. Join us as we separate fact from fiction and debunk spiritual myths.

The Last Word - March 22,29 April 5,12 2009

lastword.jpg

What would you say to your loved ones if you knew that you only had a few days left with them? The most significant things you’d like to communicate would inevitably come out. Jesus knew exactly when He was going to die, how it would happen and how people would react. As a result, Jesus said things that He knew would have the greatest impact on our ability to understand all that was about to happen.
In this series we’ll take a look at a few of the last words Jesus said and what they tell us about the importance of what He accomplished for us.

Just Walk Across the Room - February 22 March 1,8,15 2009

WalkWeb.jpg

Doomsayers shouting on the streets about the world’s impending destruction . . . people in white shirts and black pants intruding at your home . . . Ned Flanders-esque neighbors who are over the top with their Christianity and who live a seemingly unattainable lifestyle . . . blatant misuse of religion for political gain . . .
There are many reasons why it is difficult to tell people about Jesus Christ, and yet that is the very thing Jesus wants us to do. Jesus has truly changed us and we want to make a difference in the world for Him but we don’t want to force our religion down people’s throats. That’s okay. Neither does Jesus. There is a way to be whom God has called you to be but you have to be willing to take the first step. We’ll see how over the next four weeks.

Prayer - February 1,8,15 2009

pray.jpg

All of us have done it at one time or another. Some of us feel the obligation to do more. Prayer is all over the Bilbe, so we know that it's important... but it's so difficult to do! When there is confusion about something, it's very difficult to grasp the full value it may have for us. In February, we'll take a look at what prayer is (and what it is isn't) to see how we can better incorporate it into our Spiritual Journeys.

The Treasure Principle - January 4,11,18,25 2009

treasure.jpg

There’s no denying it. We’re in tough financial times, so the last thing we should talk about is generosity, right? Money and possessions are talked about more than anything else in the Bible. Fifteen percent of what Jesus said refers to this subject – more than heaven and hell combined. And, by the way, the economic condition of today doesn’t even begin to compare to the poverty back then.
Generosity is so important to God because it tells so much about the true nature of our relationship with Him – the genuineness of our spiritual journeys. Join us in January to experience why The Gate is so determined to be a generous church full of generous people.

Ruth - A Journey back to Hope - November 2,9,16,23 2008

Bad things happen to good people. It’s one thing to suffer for something you’ve done wrong, but what about the suffering of those who are loyal to God? Job loss, Marital problems, The death of a loved one. Why would God give us blessings and then strip them from us? The book of Ruth is a story of the reality of God’s faithfulness in the darkest experience of a godly woman named Naomi through the life of her son’s widow. Here’s proof that hope is never lost because of God’s constant, even unreasonable faithfulness.
